Leicester City’s pre-season agenda now includes finding a new manager after Ruud van Nistelrooy quit the King Power Stadium. Coventry City’s rivals have returned to the Championship after a disastrous Premier League season that saw them relegated without much of a fight, with van Nistelrooy overseeing only four wins in 19 games.
That has resulted in the former Manchester United favourite departing the Foxes by mutual consent, as the search for a new manager begins just three days before their players return for pre-season.
A Leicester statement read: “Ruud has presided over a difficult period for the club.
“Since his appointment in November 2024, he has tackled the post with professionally, ethics, and a strong commitment to our goals, including integrating several promising players from the Club’s Academy into our First Team. “Ruud leaves the Football Club with everyone’s respect and thanks for his devotion and hard work, as well as our best wishes for the future.
Preparations for the EFL Championship season will continue, with preseason scheduled to begin on Monday, June 30.
They will renew their rivalry with the Sky Blues in the Championship next season, when Frank Lampard leads his team up the M69 in the seventh encounter on September 20.p
The Foxes will play in the CBS Arena on January 17, 2026. The previous time they were in the Championship, they began what turned out to be a promotion campaign with a 2-1 home win over Mark Robins’ side, with a Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall double cancelling out a Kyle McFadzean goal. Danny Rohl of Sheffield Wednesday and Sean Dyche of Everton have been connected with the King Power post.
