Coventry City’s rivals set furious Championship transfer pace.

Championship transfer news from CoventryLive as Coventry City’s rivals ramp up their summer recruitment drives.

Mark Robins has had a busy weekend in the transfer market after landing two new players at Stoke

As the division’s summer strengthening picks up speed, Championship clubs have had a busy few days in the transfer market.

In his first major hiring campaign at the CBS Arena, Frank Lampard has already signed two new players to his Coventry City roster. Kaine Kelser-Hayden, who joined last week for a cost above £3.5 million from Aston Villa, is the most recent addition.

But since then, the Sky Blues’ second-tier bedfellows have been busy, including Stoke and Birmingham City, who are competitors in the Midlands. At the latter, former manager Mark Robins is still reorganising his inherited team at the bet365 stadium.

Here’s a glance at the agreements made in the last few days.

Birmingham City

Birmingham City’s big-spending recruitment has resumed with the signing of former Celtic forward Kyogo Furuhashi from French top-flight club Rennes for an unknown amount.

The Blues have signed the Japan international on a three-year contract following their promotion to the Championship as League One champions.

Furuhashi scored 85 goals in 165 appearances for Celtic and was the Scottish Premiership’s top scorer in 2022-23, with 27.

He then joined Rennes for £10 million in January, but has returned to Britain just six months later with Chris Davies’ newly promoted club, despite being extensively linked with a return to Celtic.

Charlton Athletic

Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones has signed defender Amari’i Bell from his former club Luton Town, who he previously brought to Kenilworth Road.

The 31-year-old left the Hatters at the conclusion of his contract this summer on a free transfer, signing a two-year contract with the newly promoted Addicks.

The Jamaican international joined Luton in 2021 and contributed to the club’s elevation to the Premier League two years later. He appeared in 21 top-flight games before Luton were relegated a year ago, and he was a regular in the League One side that finished last season.

Bell has 28 caps for Jamaica and scored against Panama in the Concacaf Gold Cup encounter last month.

“Amari’i is someone I know well. “I signed him at Luton and he performed admirably for me,” Jones told the club website.

Ipswich Town

Kieran McKenna has extended Ipswich Town striker George Hirst’s contract for another four years after he signed a new deal with the club.

Hirst, 26, has made 81 appearances and scored 19 goals since joining on loan from Leicester City in January 2023, with the move becoming permanent six months later.

He helped the team win back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League, and he made his international debut for Scotland in March.
