Danny Ings’ Sheffield United contract details revealed as Ruben Selles reunites with veteran striker

Sheffield United have announced the signing of Danny Ings, as the three-time capped England striker closes in on a move back to the Championship.

The 33-year-old left West Ham United earlier this summer as a free agent, with Middlesbrough showing early interest in the ex-Liverpool forward.

However, after joining the Blades on trial alongside Nathan Redmond, Ings will now reunite with Ruben Selles, after spending time working under the Spaniard at Southampton.

Sheffield United are in desperate need of reinforcements after losing all of their opening four games this season, and supporters will be hoping that the arrival of the veteran striker will add a cutting edge to their attacking play.

He has signed a one-year deal with Sheffield United; however, there is an option for this to be extended for another 12 months.

The Blades face Middlesbrough away from home this weekend as the Teessiders look to make it four wins from four in the Championship, but Ings’ lack of a pre-season may mean that he starts on the bench at the Riverside Stadium.

Nevertheless, for Selles, this is a major coup and the Winchester-born attacker will add plenty of experience and nous to the forward line at Sheffield United.

Danny Ings’ last Championship experience was incredible with Burnley

It’s been 11 years since Ings last played in the Championship, and he will be raring to go after a difficult year at West Ham.

The Blades have got somewhat of a second tier specialist now in their ranks, as he scored 21 goals in the division for Burnley back in 2013/14.
