Danny McGuire is fired by the Castleford Tigers, and a replacement is appointed.

Castleford Tigers have fired Danny McGuire. After only nine months in command, the Tigers have chosen to sever ties with the Super League legend, according to an exclusive report from All Out Rugby League.

Before the 2025 season, McGuire was hired, and since he was elevated from assistant coach to take Craig Lingard’s place, the Tigers had won four of their last eighteen games.

His last game was a Thursday night loss to the Huddersfield Giants, which dropped them to ninth place in the standings. In their last six games, Castleford has only triumphed once, against Hull FC, who haven’t won at home in a year.

This is the case even though the team made an investment in several mid-season additions, such as Tom Amone and Joe Stimson.

Chris Chester, a former Wakefield Trinity and Hull KR head coach who joined after leaving Leigh Leopards, was another significant move made by Castleford back in May.

The head coach reportedly had no idea the decision was coming, and McGuire is both astonished and upset by it.

Both Danny McGuire and Castleford Tigers have been contacted by Alloutrugbyleague for comment; the Tigers have since released a statement confirming Chester would serve as interim head coach.

“After a Board meeting today, Castleford Tigers can confirm Danny McGuire’s departure as Head Coach,” the statement from Castelford said.

“It has been a difficult season, but the outcome and performance in last week’s game against Huddersfield were extremely disappointing for me and everyone involved with the Club,” said Chairman Martin Jepson.

“Therefore, the Board believed that a shift in course was required. In addition to wishing Danny luck in the future, I would like to officially thank him for his dedication to the Club over the last two years as both head coach and assistant.

“Chris Chester will take over Head Coach duties on an interim basis with immediate effect.”
