Darren McGregor, a Hibs great, will miss his testimonial match next month due to a car accident.
This year, the Scottish Cup-winning hero is being honored for his eight seasons of devotion to the club, which included 188 games.
McGregor, 39, retired at the end of the 2022/23 season but was scheduled to return to action against Bolton Wanderers next month at Easter Road.
However, Hibs have revealed that the former defender is currently recovering in hospital after undergoing surgery following a road accident on Friday night.
A club statement read: “It is with sadness that we can confirm that Darren McGregor will be unable to play in his testimonial match against Bolton Wanderers next month.
“McGregor was involved in a vehicle collision on Friday evening (20 June, 2025) and is now recovering after undergoing surgery at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.” Everyone affiliated with the Football Club and the Darren McGregor testimonial wishes him a fast recovery.
“While ‘Daz’ will be unable to play in the match, he will be allowed to attend as the event commemorates his incredible career.
“McGregor will meet supporters inside Easter Road Stadium, and in the hospitality suites, alongside walking out onto the pitch for an interview to thanks Hibs fans for their support.”
