David Ornstein: Wolves Are Nearing a Loan-To-Buy Agreement with a La Liga Star

David Ornstein claims that Wolves are now pursuing the acquisition of Girona centre-back Ladislav Krejci, who is now having a physical. Wolves are actively looking for reinforcements following a dismal start to the season. After losing their first two games of the season, Vitor Pereira’s team is currently in the Premier League relegation zone. Before Toti Gomes’ red card allowed Bournemouth to hold on to a 1-0 victory last time out, Wolves suffered a crushing defeat at home against Manchester City in their opening match of the season.
During the 2024–2025 season, Wolves was vying for a spot at the bottom of the Premier League, and they lost several important players this summer. Due to the departures of Rayan Ait-Nouri, Matheus Cunha, and Nelson Semedo, Wolves had to move quickly to get replacements. It is unclear if the new players they have added will be sufficient to replace their three mainstays who have departed the team.
Krejci is having a medical at Wolves today (Tuesday) before finalising a transfer to the Midlands club, according to Ornstein’s report for The Athletic. The defender is expected to join Wolves on loan, with the possibility of a future permanent agreement. The Wanderers have agreed to pay a €7 million loan fee, and Wolves intend to activate a €23 million buyout option that is contingent on a specific amount of appearances. Krejci appears to be Wolves’ sixth summer transfer window addition after agreeing to a five-year contract.
By making sure they pay the majority of the price next summer rather than now, Wolves are obviously trying to spread the cost of the Krjeci deal. Supporters of Wolves may be concerned about this because they may believe there isn’t enough money to play with or that they may be saving money for another addition before the transfer window ends on Monday. After losing two straight in the Premier League, the Molineux supporters will surely be hoping for more additions after Krejci before the window closes. There is still time for Wolves to complete a deal, but it is unclear if Krejci will be the last summer acquisition.
