Deal agreed: Ipswich Town sign 17 y/o gem ahead of Bournemouth until 2028
When Kieran McKenna’s team visits Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon, they may formally be demoted from the top division this weekend. West Ham, in 17th place, will visit Brighton & Hove Albion.
The Tractor Boys will be demoted if Ipswich doesn’t win five in a row, West Ham loses five in a row, and the goal differential swings by 20 goals.
McKenna recently responded, “There’s a whole list of things,” when asked what lessons he has learnt in the Premier League. However, the summer season is still strong, so there’s plenty of time for that.
Naturally, as we’ve progressed, we’ve been thinking back and talking. I think it’s fair to say that the majority of those comments are about the particular problem we faced this year, but I will admit that the majority will remain internal because I believe it’s the proper approach.
They are more about the scale and difficulty of raising a football team from its previous level to compete in the world’s best league during this extremely challenging season.
“As a football club, from the manager to every employee to the board here, we will all have learned an awful lot about that scenario. I still have a lot of pride and belief in how we’ve tried to tackle that challenge,” the statement reads.
As the summer approaches and a Championship season is likely, Ipswich may lose several key players, such as striker Liam Delap, whose release clause will be reduced to £30 million following relegation.
Ipswich has been linked to a number of players, some of whom were teenagers. Ryan One, a forward for Sheffield United, has been mentioned as a possible Delap replacement, while 17-year-old defender Corbin Mthunzi, formerly of Brighton, has signed professional terms.
