One of Sheffield Wednesday’s departing players has already signed and sealed his next move – to familiar surroundings.
The Owls are in the grips of off-field crisis but the football world keeps revolving and with the publishing of their retained and released lists last month, players are going about securing their futures elsewhere. One player already sorted is talented young goalkeeper Jack Hall, who was revealed to be departing the club after a long time climbing through the club’s junior systems.
The former England youth international, who signed his first professional contract with the Owls in 2021 and has spent a significant amount of time training with the senior squad at Middlewood Road, has signed a one-year contract with Northern Premier League Division One East side Bradford (Park Avenue) following a successful loan spell with the West Yorkshire club last season. The team competed in the same league as Stocksbridge Park Steels and Sheffield FC previous season.
The relocation was made possible in large part by the club’s ‘Development Fund’ program, which allows supporters to contribute money to help the team cover its expenses. Former Wednesday defender Mark Beevers is on the books at Bradford and told our sister daily The Yorkshire Post that the club hopes to be promoted next season under manager Craig Elliott.
Hall’s signing is a reunion for the 20-year-old, who spent time on loan at the Horsfall Stadium and became a fan favourite during the previous season. He appeared 15 times for The Green Army, keeping four clean sheets during a run of form that helped them reach a safe midtable spot. He has also spent time on loan with Bridlington Town.
Hall has never played a senior game for Wednesday, but he has long been considered as a club legend. According to The Star, the keeper was the subject of a transfer bid from Brighton & Hove Albion several years ago, but the trade never materialised.
