Defender Dunne signs new QPR contract

Defender Dunne signs new QPR contract.

Jimmy Dunne, a QPR defender, has signed a new contract with the Championship club.

Dunne was selected player of the season by both the club’s supporters and players, as the Rs ended 15th in the league. The 27-year-old has made 163 appearances for the club since moving from Burnley in 2021, scoring 11 goals. Dunne was expected to be out of contract this summer and had been linked with a transfer to Sheffield United in January, but QPR claimed they were still “in discussions” with him about a new contract last month.

“This feels like home – it’s my club, so I’m really happy to still be here,” he said on the club’s website. Dunne missed only one league game and scored five goals in a season that saw him earn his maiden Republic of Ireland international cap.

“I’ve got an emotional attachment to this club, which is obviously super rare in football these days,” remarked the attacker. “My butcher and my postman are both QPR fans. I see them all the time, therefore I sense the people’s emotions whenever I see them in Chiswick or elsewhere. “That’s another reason I’ve grown so attached, and I believe I truly care. So much has happened since I’ve been here. There are so many managers and players, but I’ve seen how much the supporters cared about us even when we were at our lowest. The team did not specify the length of the new contract.
