Defender set for return to Watford – Clause will not be used

Defender set for return to Watford – Clause will not be used.

João Ferreira is set for a return to Watford this summer as SC Braga have decided against buying him permanently.

According to Record and O Jogo, the 24-year-old will be returning after his loan spell with the Portuguese club. According to the Record, Braga will not execute the €3.5 million purchase option agreed upon with Watford when he signed on loan during the summer transfer window. The right-back has been a regular for Braga this season, but the club has decided against a permanent move and will instead hunt for a successor over the summer. O Jogo confirms that Ferreira will not be part of Braga’s plans for the 2025/26 season. They chose him despite the fact that they have yet to find a replacement for Carlos Carvalhal, who has stepped down as manager. They don’t intend to use the purchase clause they negotiated with Watford last year, which was valued at €3.5m and would have included a four-year deal for the defender.

The decision was made as he’s not started a game for the Portuguese side since February. He’ll now return to Watford, where his current deal runs until 2027.
