Dejphon Chansiri rejects improved Sheffield Wednesday takeover bid after ‘derisory’ first offer

According to The Star, Sheffield Wednesday has turned down a second purchase bid from a consortium based in Florida.

In recent months, Sheffield Wednesday has been the subject of much conjecture, primarily over the future of Danny Rohl, the manager of SWFC.

But as Hillsborough makes decisions on the fate of its out-of-contract players, possible takeover offers have been rumbling away once more.

At the end of April, a Florida-based group made the Championship side their first bid. Owner and chairman Dejphon Chansiri rejected it as “derisory,” and the Thai entrepreneur has now rejected a follow-up offer from the same company.

The Star claims that Sheffield Wednesday has turned down this U.S. group’s most recent offer. Whether this bid was more likely to be approved or not is unknown.

Even though it’s unclear at this point if they will make a third attempt, supporters will find solace in the fact that they made a second attempt after SWFC president Chansiri rejected their first.

Although Chansiri has frequently stated that he would sell to the right buyer at the right price, rumors of a high value have prevented any takeover proposal from ever coming close to happening.

Uncertainty surrounding Sheffield Wednesday is constant.

Over the last two years, Sheffield Wednesday has experienced some incredibly successful runs as they have risen out of League One, avoided a quick comeback, and moved into the Championship’s mid-table group.

But, as has been the case throughout Chansiri’s reign, the next disaster has only been a matter of time away.

SWFC has rarely experienced a time of actual stability, despite threats of transfer embargoes, abrupt managerial changes, and delayed wage payments, among other issues.

The fact that they have advanced up the second division this year is a credit to the coaching staff, players, and management.

No more advancements till the transfer of ownership?

To be honest, there have been times when Chansiri has earned his accolades. He was the one who recently hired Rohl to Sheffield Wednesday and re-signed him to the team last summer.

However, it appears like the Owls won’t be able to make significant progress up the football ladder again until that changes because of the obvious lack of connections between the ownership and management.

Additionally, Chansiri has showed little interest in considering hiring sporting directors or similar individuals, who can be crucial to a club’s success.

Such changes at Hillsborough might only occur with a new owner, but supporters won’t be holding their breath after another purchase attempt was rejected.
