Departing Huddersfield Town players assessed as the Terriers begin summer overhaul
Huddersfield Town have begun the process of reshaping their squad for next season by confirming that seven out-of-
contract first-team players are set to depart the club.
Jonathan Hogg, Danny Ward, Tom Lees, Matty Pearson, Ollie Turton, Josh Ruffels, and Josh Koroma will all depart
the Terriers when their contracts expire next month, the team has announced.
“After conducting a thorough review of our footballing operations following the 2024–25 campaign, the club retains
a desire to refresh the complexion of our first-team squad having fallen short of our targets this season,” the club
said in a statement explaining the choice in their retained list. In an effort to start the 2025–2026 season fresh,
choices have been taken to provide any new head coach complete autonomy and flexibility.
The Terriers ended their debut season in League One in 10th place after being relegated from the Championship, 14
points outside of the play-off spots.

contributions the departing players have made while playing for the Terriers.
Jonathan Hogg
Having made 410 appearances for Town since joining the team in 2013 from Watford, Hogg is expected to depart the
Terriers as the sixth-highest appearance maker in the club’s history.
Under David Wagner, the midfield player was a member of the team that was promoted to the Premier League in
2017 and was named vice captain before their debut season in the top division.
In 2021, Hogg was named club captain and went on to win the Hargreaves Memorial Player of the Year award. The
36-year-old leaves the Terriers after playing 38 games across all competitions this season.
Danny Ward
Ward’s second spell with Town is coming to an end, with the 34-year-old having spent five years with the Terriers
during his second stint.
After leaving Cardiff City to rejoin the Terriers in 2020, the attacker scored 26 goals in 144 games with the team. His
season was cut short in January due to an ACL injury, and he only made 20 games this season. Ward has “the
opportunity to continue his rehabilitation with the club until he is fit to move elsewhere,” according to Town’s
confirmation.
In March 2011, Ward made the move permanent after first joining Town on loan from Bolton Wanderers. Before
leaving for Rotherham United in 2015, he played with the Terriers for just under four years, scoring 17 goals in 130
games.
Tom Lees
After four years with the team, Lees’ tenure at Town is coming to an end. After leaving Sheffield Wednesday to join
the Terriers in 2021, the 34-year-old made 47 appearances in his debut season, which saw Town almost lose out on
promotion to the Premier League.
With 155 games and eight goals overall, the centre-back played for Town. In his last season, he made 32 appearances.
Lees, like Ward, will be permitted to finish his recovery with Town before departing after suffering a season-ending
knee injury in February.

In 2021, Ruffels also joined the Terriers. After joining from Oxford United, the defender played 80 games for Town
in four seasons.
