Derby County agree $10m deal for 24-year-old star ahead of Ipswich Town

According to Ben Jacobs, Derby County has reached an agreement to pay $8 million plus $2 million in add-ons for Patrick Agyemang, a striker for Charlotte FC.

After barely surviving the previous season, Derby County is hoping to move up the Championship table under John Eustace. Luton Town fell to West Brom, while DCFC only sealed their fate on the last day when they drew with Stoke City.

But for a while now, the Rams have made it clear that they intend to make significant progress in the upcoming season.

Although sources claim that Ipswich Town, a team vying for promotion, has also been involved, there have been strong connections between the Pride Park club and American striker Patrick Agyemang.

However, it appears that Derby County has defeated the relegated team in the competition for Agyemang, 24, at this point.

According to reporter Ben Jacobs’ article on X, DCFC has reached a deal in principle to sign the potent forward permanently for $8 million plus $2 million in add-ons, or around £5.8 million + £1.4 million.

The necessary parties are currently completing the finer points of the transaction before it can be made official in due time, and Charlotte FC will have a sell-on clause to guarantee they gain from a future deal.

Derby County’s statement deal

Derby County has had to be extremely frugal in recent seasons as they bounce back from the chaos and management that led to their 2021 relegation from the Championship.

The EFL kept a careful eye on their operations for a considerable amount of time after that, and DCFC has continued to need to maintain business acumen in order to maintain balance in their accounts.

But a £7.2 million move for Agyemang demonstrates that the Rams are back to business. This is a significant investment, and they defeat some fierce competition to recruit him, as Ipswich Town and other teams are also interested in the USMNT player.

Redesigned striker ranks

Derby County knew they needed to restock their striker ranks this summer, and it seems the recruitment team made it a top priority.

Carlton Morris, who joined from relegated Luton Town, was the first summer acquisition. Agyemang now goes through the doors after him.

With Lars-Jorgen Salvesen and Kayden Jackson among the other candidates on the books at Pride Park, it might open the door for someone like Dajaune Brown to temporarily relocate.
