Derek McInnes delighted with ‘quality’ Hearts contract announcement as stopper signs t extension.

A contract extension for Hearts has been confirmed, with Derek McInnes stating that ‘we’re fortunate to have him.
Ryan Fulton has signed a new contract with Hearts until the summer of 2027. After a lengthy stint with Hamilton Accies, the former Liverpool youth joined the team last summer as a backup to Craig Gordon and Zander Clark. He stepped in near the conclusion of the season after both goaltenders were injured, and he impressed. It has now been announced that Fulton will remain in Gorgie until the conclusion of the 26/27 Premiership season, and McInnes believes the club is fortunate to retain him. Hearts also have young goalkeepers Liam McFarlane and Harry Stone in the squad.
Hearts contract extension confirmed
McInnes stated: “It’s critical to have good goalkeeping options to select from, and with Ryan committing his future to the club, we have that strength and consistency. According to Paul Gallacher, Ryan is a top professional who gives his all in training and pushes his teammates to improve. Ryan had to be patient last season, but I believe everyone realised when he was put into action that he is a superb custodian, and we are fortunate to have him. Fulton stated, “I’m delighted to sign this extension; I’ve enjoyed my time at Hearts.” It’s a fantastic group of youngsters, and I’m fortunate to work with some excellent goalkeepers. Last season was far from what we hoped it would be, so we now have a real chance to learn from that and come back stronger. We’re excited to get back for pre-season, work with the new management team, and try and be as successful as we can be.”
A club statement reads: “Heart of Midlothian Football Club is pleased to announce that Ryan Fulton has signed a one-year contract extension, subject to Scottish FA approval.” Ryan’s new contract will keep him in Gorgie until the summer of 2027. Ryan, 29, joined Tynecastle last summer after seven years with Hamilton Accies, challenging Craig Gordon and Zander Clark for the number one spot.
Why Hearts player has signed new contract
“Despite having to wait for his debut, Ryan played an important role when it came in May, keeping a clean sheet and providing an assist as the men in maroon defeated Motherwell 3-0 at Tynecastle Park.” He made two further appearances in the final two games of the season, assisting Hearts to two clean sheets and six points as the Jambos placed seventh after their post-split fixtures.”
Fulton stated after preserving a clean sheet in his debut against Motherwell: “I wouldn’t say one area, just all around and even a bit of confidence, being with the two of them, and keeping up with the two of them. That’s a major deal since they’re both well-known, particularly in Scotland. So I feel my levels with them every day, and clearly they’re pushing me as much as I’m pushing them, which is great because I knew I needed to get started right away when I arrived here. There are no second chances, and there is no sleeping your way in.
“It’s like I need to go, and I need to be prepared, especially because all eyes are on me. I’ve had the opportunity of working with these two gentlemen. Obviously, Craigie, what he’s done in the game, and where Zander is, I couldn’t have asked for two better individuals to be with than Gal. So I definitely don’t take it for granted. I come in here, I work hard, I try to maintain the standards high, stay up with them, and we’ll see where it goes from there.
“I don’t want to sit on the bench, and I definitely don’t want to be a training keeper, but I understood what I was getting into when I got here. I knew the enormity of the club and what I was getting into with the two boys in front of me. So, going forward, things may be different, but I’m not sure what the future holds. I knew what I was getting into; I knew I needed to put my head down and work hard so that I could get a shot. It had been a long wait for me, but I finally got it today, and it was definitely good to have a clean sheet.
