A burglar from Wiltshire has been sentenced to jail after he ran from police officers to escape arrest.
Wiltshire Police were called to the Pans Lane area of Devizes on Wednesday, April 23, after complaints of a burglary that was in progress. But when they arrived, the 40-year-old burglar, who was carrying a bladed object, rushed away from the scene on foot. He was tracked by police and detained.
Matthew Pike, of London Road in Devizes, has now been in court in Swindon just five days later, and pled guilty to both the burglary and possession of a bladed article.
He has been sentenced to 11 months in prison.
Sergeant Georgina Wyatt of Wiltshire Police said after the sentencing: “Burglary is a devastating crime, not only financially but also emotionally.
“I hope that this sentence sends a clear message that such crime will not be tolerated and that anyone found guilty of such an offence can expect to feel the full force of the law.”
