‘Different beast’ – Birmingham City fired Championship warning by former player
Former footballer David Dunn has cautioned Birmingham City that the Championship is a “different beast” than League One.
On their first attempt, Birmingham City was promoted from the third division. BCFC surged to the title and smashed the record points tally.
Wrexham has joined Chris Davies’ team in the top two. Charlton Athletic, Wycombe Wanderers, Leyton Orient, and Stockport County are currently competing in the play-offs for the last promotion spot.
In an interview with Vavel, Dunn, who spent his playing career with the Blues, Blackburn Rovers, and Oldham Athletic, stated: “Birmingham is buzzing right now.” With their investment, the new owners have done a fantastic job, and all of the new hires have lived up to their potential. Every team may occasionally try to outspend the major team, but Birmingham City hasn’t let anything to stop them from winning the title.
“There is no reason Birmingham City can’t mount a serious bid for the play-offs and promotion,” he continued, “but the Championship is a different beast than that of League 1 and the club is likely to invest again.”
Birmingham City’s most recent promotion from League One
A year ago, Birmingham City, Rotherham United, and Huddersfield Town were all demoted. Since then, BCFC has made a spectacular comeback.
Last year, they hired Davies as their head coach. Prior to his departure to the Midlands, he worked as the number two with the likes of Leicester City, Celtic and Tottenham Hotspur.

The Blues have got into a habit of winning games now and are carrying momentum. Next term, that should help them a lot.
In the end, dropping down a division was most likely a blessing in disguise. It has restored the club’s feel-good vibes.
What now for Birmingham City this summer?
This summer, Birmingham City has the opportunity to add a few new players. When the next business window opens, BCFC has the chance to let certain players leave as well in order to free up money and space.
They must be prepared for the jump up a division, as Dunn hinted. In this previous campaign, the majority of things went their way, and it most likely won’t.
The Blues have a well-established financial presence, and their team appears to be powerful. They will increase their chances of success by making a few minor adjustments here and there.
