Dilan Markanday message raises fans’ hopes of Chesterfield return.

After “throughly enjoying” his time on loan with the Spireites, Dilan Markanday says he will be keeping a close eye on Chesterfield “in the future.”
After signing on loan from Blackburn Rovers, the dynamic forward dominated the first half of the season, tallying seven goals and dishing out two assists. Because of his performance, Leyton Orient convinced Markanday’s parent club, Blackburn Rovers, to call him back and loan him to them for the remainder of the season. He helped the O’s advance to the League One play-off final, where they lost 1-0 to Charlton Athletic at Wembley.
After being released by Blackburn, the 23-year-old is a free agent this summer, and it’s safe to say that Town supporters would be thrilled to sign him to a long-term contract. And their hopes were bolstered over the weekend when Kyle Mc Fadzean, a defender for Chesterfield who knows Markanday from their time at Ewood Park together, answered with a pen signing emoji to Blackburn’s thank-you message on Instagram.
While some supporters are hopeful that a permanent move may occur, others are questioning whether Markanday’s subsequent statement of gratitude for the Spiriteites was a subtle hint that he wouldn’t be returning.

“What a football team and group of supporters,” he wrote. I had an excellent experience there. Since the first day, the players and staff have made me feel welcome and given me the freedom to play football. I appreciate that. I wish you luck and will be keeping a careful eye on the team going forward.
Although Markanday will likely have plenty of offers, it is unclear if a contract might be reached with him. However, his loan stint at the Blues earlier in the season might be the difference. This Sunday, June 1, marks the start of the 10-day transfer window, which is applicable to EFL teams as well as transfers for the Club World Cup. After that, it shutters and reopens from June 16 to September 1.
