‘Don’t believe…’: Carlton Palmer’s shock Chansiri claim amid Sheffield Wednesday ‘£40m’ suggestion

As Sheffield Wednesday’s dreadful position persists, club veteran Carlton Palmer has shared his opinions, including a shocking allegation regarding Dejphon Chansiri and a bright prognosis for the future.

Sheffield Wednesday is a club in difficulty under current ownership, overseen by Dejphon Chansiri, and there are no indicators that things will improve anytime soon.

Financial troubles have plagued the club all summer, leaving the Owls with a depleted team, an inexperienced new manager, and a disillusioned fans.

These supporters have recently protested Chansiri, with varied degrees of success. While the chairman continues to stand firm and keep control of the club, there are worries about how long this tug-of-war can last and how long it will take Chansiri to step down.

Carlton Palmer claims. Dejphon Chansiri still possesses money.

Speaking to The Sun newspaper (published August 24th, 2025), Owls legend Carlton Palmer confessed that the current state of his old team is unpleasant to see, and speculated that Chansiri may be doing all of this on purpose by withholding financing from the club.

Palmer stated, “What is happening at my old club is breaking my heart.” I do not believe Chansiri is out of money. He is part of a wealthy family that has previously invested £200 million in the club. I’m confident he has at least £20-30 million.

“I have spoken to several of the right-hand men at the club and the biggest problem is that he wants in the region of £100m to sell the club, which is a major stumbling block.”

Palmer went on to explain how he envisions a sale going forward, with a compromise on Chansiri’s £100 million value required in order for the club to progress.

He added: “I don’t see why there can’t be an agreement in which he sells for £60 million with a £40 million caveat if the club makes it to the Premier League.”

“The club requires a change to move forward. I am really devastated for the supporters who are having to go through this ordeal. The sooner ownership changes, the better. The longer this goes on, the more damage the club will sustain.”

We know that whomever takes over Sheffield Wednesday will have big aspirations for the sleeping giant, including Saudi investors who want to make the Owls a top-five club and build a new stadium. At this time, most supporters would be content with a sense of normalcy, let alone lofty goals.

Sheffield Wednesday could pursue a similar path as Birmingham City

In addition to his comments about Chansiri, Palmer suggested that if new owners come in, Wednesday might take a step back before going forward quickly, as Birmingham City did.

He continued, “I try to see things from a positive perspective. Birmingham City was in a similar predicament three years ago, but they are currently in an entirely different one. I hope Sheffield Wednesday can do the same.”

Of course, there is a long way to go before such an event occurs. Unfortunately, it could be a while before we witness a successful takeover, let alone the long-term consequences of those new owners.
