‘Don’t forget’… After Sheffield United departure, Vini Souza left one more dig at Wednesday fans
Sheffield United midfielder Vini Souza has left the club, but not without leaving one last dig on the blue side of the Steel City.
Sheffield United are gearing up for the 2025/26 Championship season under the stewardship of new boss Ruben Selles.
It promises to be a telling summer for the Blades and Selles, who will be hoping that they can retain as many of the prominent members of their squad as possible.
Gus Hamer has attracted interest from elsewhere, as had Sheffield United ace Vini Souza before his fate was sealed.
Now it has been confirmed that Souza has left Sheffield United, with the Brazilian midfielder joining Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg.
It is clear, however, that Souza leaves with a heavy heart after he penned a heartfelt message to Blades fans on his departure, but he didn’t stop there, as he also looked to put Sheffield Wednesday fans in their place.

Ahead of Souza’s confirmed departure on Friday, the Blades man published a message on social media directed towards Sheffield United fans, discussing the ‘incredible club’ and the ‘wonderful fans’. However, he went on to make the unfortunate mistake of signing off the post with ‘I love you @swfc’.
The post, which has since been deleted on X, gave Sheffield Wednesday fans plenty of fuel to direct towards Souza and the Blades supporters.
However, Souza didn’t disappear into the shadows, but rather sent a message back to Sheffield Wednesday fans that read: ‘Don’t forget, Sheffield has always been and always will be red’.
Vini Souza did incredibly well to turn his Sheffield United career around
Following the hugely disappointing 2023/24 Premier League season that saw Sheffield United subject to an abysmal relegation campaign with minimal fight, Vini Souza was often outed as the culprit for showing a lack of spirit, commitment, and quality in the centre of the park.
Questions were asked of everyone in the pack, but because of Souza’s price that he arrived for and the expectation he brought on his shoulders, that burden increased for him.
Whilst many players often take a difficult Premier League season on the chin and move elsewhere instead of proving themselves in the Championship, Souza decided to repay faith in the club and stick by them.
Sheffield United fell at the final hurdle at Wembley, but they still defied expectations to respond after such a difficult campaign, and Souza was one of the surprise packages. He leaves, having proven himself for the Blades, and there is every reason he now deserves that move to the Bundesliga.
