Dream end to Wrexham transfer window as Ollie Palmer stays and summer spend reaches £36.6m

With Ollie Palmer staying and summer spending reaching £36.6 million, the Wrexham transfer window comes to a dream finish.

Before the Championship season started, the Red Dragons completed a large portion of their transfer transactions. The Racecourse Ground now has nine new newcomers, including Nathan Broadhead, who signed a club-record contract last week. But because of their oversized roster, several players will still need to go or be excluded from the Championship starting on September 2.

However, Phil Parkinson is still hoping to make further moves before the September 1 deadline, despite the fact that the team is too large to be registered in the second division and there are a lot of new players. In light of that, here is what a perfect Wales transfer window finale may entail. As of this writing, Wrexham has spent £18.6 million on new players, second only to Norwich City in the Championship, with players already signed.

But if the team completes two more additions by the September 1 deadline, that number might almost quadruple. Wrexham was reportedly “closing in on a deal” for Manchester City’s Callum Doyle earlier this week. The defender was being offered for a total of £8 million, making him their second most expensive acquisition after Broadhead. Lewis Koumas was being linked to a move to Wrexham, and it was believed that Liverpool would loan the young player out.

But according to recent reports, Birmingham City and Parkinson’s team are seeking a £10 million permanent contract for Koumas. The Dragons’ summer spending will reach £36.6 million if both agreements are approved for the stated costs. After being cut from the League One team in late January 2025, Ollie Palmer has been facing an uncertain future in Wales. Palmer came off the bench to score twice in last week’s Carabao Cup match against Hull City, but Wrexham supporters want him to return to the Championship.

Since Steven Fletcher left, Kieffer Moore has become Parkinson’s go-to “big man” option; but, aside from the 33-year-old, they don’t really have a comparable substitute on the team. Supporters should be pleased that Palmer is remaining, but other players are anticipated to depart. Jacob Mendy may go on loan this summer, according to Parkinson, while some other players, like George Evans and Jack Marriott, don’t look likely to make the 25-man Championship squad and should be let go for the sake of their careers.
