Dundee goalie Trevor Carson reveals what Craig Gordon said after Hearts No 1 ‘smashed’ him.
Goalkeeper Trevor Carson experienced a range of emotions during Dundee’s 1-0 victory over Hearts.
Elation at three points, delight at keeping a clean sheet, and complete surprise that he came shoulder to shoulder with his opposite number as a high ball approached his goal.
Then came relief when the referee blew his whistle.
Simon Murray’s first-half goal helped the Dark Blues secure a hard-earned victory.
Tony Docherty, manager, praised the entire team for their outstanding performances throughout the game.
None more so than Carson. The Northern Irish custodian made impressive saves against Jorge Grant in the first half, Kenneth Vargas in stoppage time, and the final stramash.
Scotland No. 1 Gordon was sent forward to take a Hearts corner. Yan Dhanda knocked out the first delivery and then floated the ball back in.
The two goalkeepers rose before Alan Forrest finished by putting the ball in after referee Ross Hardie blew for a foul.
‘I just felt the hit.’
“I didn’t expect big Craigy to be smashing me last minute!” Carson revealed that he helped Dundee move out of the Premiership’s bottom two.
“I spoke with the big man afterwards. I said if that happened to you, you’d be demanding it.
“He claimed it wasn’t a foul, but I felt it.
“I clearly heard the whistle before it hit the net, which is why I didn’t stand up and react.
“It’s funny; Scott Tiffoney was told to pick up Gordon, and wee Tiff simply looked up at the big goalie!”
“I didn’t even realise it was Craigy because I was facing that direction and the big man had a run on me from behind, and I just felt the hit.”
“I was glad to hear the whistle.”
‘He completely crushed me.’
It was unusual to see a foul called against one custodian for challenging another.
Carson, on the other hand, remembered a similar incident during his time in the South.

The roles were reversed, however.
When asked if he had ever been fouled by a fellow custodian, Carson said, “No, I don’t think so; this is probably the first time.
“Actually, I fouled another custodian.”
“I remember playing against Carlisle when Mark Gillespie was the custodian, and we laughed about it because he obviously came to Motherwell years later.
“I remember thinking I’m going to get my head on this and it was right on top of me and big Mark just came and he absolutely smashed me.”
