Dundee must ease burden on star man Simon Murray says Steven Pressley

Dundee must ease burden on star man Simon Murray says Steven Pressley.

The Dark Blues’ manager wants to add more goals to his club. According to manager Steven Pressley, Dundee must lighten the strain on skipper Simon Murray this season.

Following Joe Shaughnessy’s departure this summer, the Dundonian was appointed club captain.
This comes after Murray led the line and scored the most for the Dark Blues in his debut season. Pressley admitted it was an easy decision to name Murray club captain, but he is determined to reduce the team’s reliance on the frontman.

“We were reliant on Simon Murray last year but Emile Acquah gives us also another focal point,” he added. “We’re aware that Lyall Cameron and Scott Tiffoney have left.

“That’s a lot of goals for the squad, and we need to figure out how to handle them.

“Again, one of the things we’ve been focussing on during our recruitment process is achieving team goals. “I believe that is an extremely crucial component of that.

“It’s difficult to get players with a history of scoring goals but that’s a challenge we’ve got to really focus in on.”

‘He’s what a manager wants’

Murray’s attitude, however, has impressed Pressley in his first few weeks on the job. “He’s been amazing,” the head coach added.

“We had a very physical workout this week, and he drove it. Not with his voice, but through his actions. “That is what a management wants. He wants a player like that who sets standards and makes demands on his teammates.

“Additionally, he can score goals. “We’re extremely blessed to have him. “I’ve talked extensively about his path. I enjoy his adventure. “It hasn’t been straightforward.

He has had to work extremely hard to get where he is. I believe he appreciates that. “I said making him captain was an easy decision. He is everything I want. “I’m very pleased with him.”
