Dutch Giants Feyenoord Make Approach Over Potential Deal for Middlesbrough Star Rav van den Berg

Middlesbrough have reportedly been approached by Eredivisie giants Feyenoord over a potential summer swoop for highly-rated defender Rav van den Berg, according to Dutch outlet *Voetbal International*.

The 20-year-old Dutch centre-back, who arrived at the Riverside Stadium from PEC Zwolle in 2022, has emerged as one of Middlesbrough’s standout performers over the past two seasons. His commanding presence, maturity beyond his years, and consistent displays in the heart of defence have attracted admirers from across Europe — and now his reputation back home appears to have sparked concrete interest from Feyenoord.

Voetbal International reports that the Rotterdam club have made an initial approach to gauge Middlesbrough’s stance on a possible transfer. While no formal bid has been tabled yet, the Dutch giants are believed to be weighing up a move as they look to bolster their defensive options for the upcoming campaign. Feyenoord, who finished second in the Eredivisie last season and will compete in the UEFA Champions League, see van den Berg as a player with the potential to slot straight into their first team and develop further on the European stage.

However, Middlesbrough are determined to retain the services of van den Berg, with manager Michael Carrick reportedly keen to build his side around the young defender. Having narrowly missed out on promotion last season, Boro view van den Berg as a key figure in their push for a return to the Premier League. The club are in a strong negotiating position too — van den Berg is under contract at the Riverside until 2027, meaning there is no immediate pressure to sell.

Boro’s stance comes as no surprise given how instrumental the Dutchman was last term. He made 43 appearances in all competitions, forming a solid partnership with veteran defender Matt Clarke and earning plaudits for his composed performances. Van den Berg’s progress has not only caught the attention of Feyenoord but has also seen him linked with Bundesliga and Premier League sides in recent months.

While the lure of returning to the Netherlands — especially with the prospect of Champions League football — might appeal to van den Berg, Middlesbrough are hopeful that their ambition for promotion, coupled with his importance to the team, will persuade him to stay put for at least another season.

The coming weeks are likely to be crucial as Feyenoord weigh up whether to firm up their interest with a formal bid. For now, Middlesbrough fans will be anxiously awaiting developments, hoping the club can fend off interest and retain a player many see as central to their Championship promotion hopes.
