The new career of Ed Sheeran? Ipswich gives A-list supporters and stakeholders a first-team squad number as the Tractor Boys aim to return to the Premier League.

Ipswich announced all of their first-team players’ squad numbers three days before their season opening. Stakeholder and well-known British artist Sheeran, who is a devoted supporter of the club, was given the No. 17 shirt on that list.
The club traded star forward Liam Delap to Chelsea after they were relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2024–25 season. The Blues activated the striker’s £30 million ($41 million) release clause. In addition to Delap, Sam Morsy was cut from the team from the previous season because he left on a free transfer.
Along with the three new players, manager Kieran McKenna has brought in Azor Matusiwa, who cost a staggering £10 million to join from Rennes. In the season opener against recently promoted Birmingham City on Friday, Ipswich will begin their 2025–26 Championship campaign.
