Efforts intensifying to sign Sunderland player – Manager and directors take private jet to Newcastle for negotiations

Borussia Dortmund is one of the teams around Sunderland’s Jobe Bellingham.

On April 26th, we highlighted suggestions from Germany that the 19-year-old may be a significant boost for BVB. According to reports, RB Leipzig is interested in signing him during the summer transfer window.

According to Ruhr Nachrichten, Borussia Dortmund has stepped up its efforts to sign the Sunderland star.

On Wednesday, BVB manager Niko Kovač, managing director Lars Ricken, and sporting director Sebastian Kehl traveled to Newcastle on a private plane.

This trip was most likely used to negotiate the midfielder’s transfer. According to the BVB’s local publication, the three executives returned to Germany later that day. In this way, they are stepping up their efforts to obtain his signature.
Ruhr Nachrichten met up with the group at Dortmund Airport, but they refused to reveal the facts of their journey to Newcastle.

The player’s brother, Jude Bellingham, played three years at the Signal Iduna Park before going to Real Madrid in 2023. The German club maintains touch with Bellingham’s family, which could be crucial for them to win the race.

According to the report, if Dortmund wants to get Jobe, they must offer Sunderland €22 million.

Sky Deutschland journalist Patrick Berger reported on Twitter (previously known as X) that Kovač, Ricken, and Kehl were in England for talks to sign the Sunderland player. He hasn’t said if the negotiation was with Bellingham’s camp, the Black Cats, or both.

Berger adds that Sunderland’s asking price is approximately €25 million, which is €3 million higher than the figure published by Ruhr Nachrichten.
