EFL release statement as Derby County rivals handed transfer punishment.

DerbyshireLive gives you the latest Derby County news, including news from one of the Rams’ opponents, who have been penalised by the Football League.
Sheffield Wednesday, Derby County’s Championship opponents, will be unable to spend transfer money for the next three windows due to late wage payments. It comes after more than 30 days of late payments between July 1, 2024 and June 30, 2025. The Championship side restriction will apply to this summer’s window as well as two subsequent full windows (Winter 2026 and Summer 2026). The team can still make free transfers, but it cannot pay loan costs. An EFL statement read: “The EFL can confirm that Sheffield Wednesday Football Club is now subject to a three-window fee limitation after exceeding 30 days of late payments between July 1, 2024 and June 30, 2025.
“According to EFL Regulations, the restriction will apply to the entire summer window and two full windows thereafter (winter 2026 and summer 2026).” The Club intends to appeal the ruling, which will be heard in due time. Separately, on June 3, 2025, the EFL charged the club and its owner, Mr Dejphon Chansiri, with nonpayment of player wages between March and May 2025. This case is being investigated by an Independent Disciplinary Commission, and the League is unable to speak further at this time.
Pressure is rising on owner Dejphon Chansiri to sell the club, since his connection with the fans is strained. Manager Danny Rohl’s future remains uncertain, and their relationship was thought to be strained earlier this season. But Chansiri insisted there had been no repercussions.
