
Emergency Incident Another fire was reported at a tavern in a village near Chichester.
A small pub near Chichester has caught fire for the second time in less than two months. A fire broke out at the Gribble Inn pub in Oving just before 5 p.m. on Friday.
This follows a fire that severely destroyed the same bar, a 16th-century thatched cottage, on February 27. Another huge fire broke out at the tavern in July 2014, requiring more than 90 firefighters to respond.
While the latest incident was still ongoing, a West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson stated: “At around 16.53 , our Joint Fire Control received a call reporting a fire at the Gribble Inn pub in Oving, Chichester.
“Five fire engines, one ariel ladder platform, and one water carrier were quickly dispatched to the scene, with firemen utilizing breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire.
“The fire was extinguished at 19:05, however crews are still on the scene monitoring and damping down. “We are still encouraging nearby households to avoid the area, especially Gribble Lane, which is still closed but expected to reopen within the hour.
The cause of the fire is presently being investigated. According to AA Traffic News, Gribble Lane was closed in both directions from Marlpit Lane to High Street because of a building fire.
The traffic information agency also stated that Oving Road was closed, adding: “Road closed due to building fire on Oving Road both ways.”
By Saturday morning, the roads were open again. A request for an updated statement has been made to the fire department.
