Overview:

FC Twente missed out on European football this season after losing to AZ Alkmaar in the play-off final. Last season, Joseph Oosting’s side finished third, but this year they finished sixth, 10 points behind FC Utrecht and European football. Sem Steijn will now leave the club as well, and he will need to be replaced in some way. In Europe, the team lost to Norwegian champions FK Bodø/Glimt in the Europa League play-off round.

 

Player of the Season: Sem Steijn

Steijn, Twente’s player of the season and possibly the league’s best player, took another step forward this season. In 48 games for the team, he scored 31 goals and eight assists. He’s on his way to Feyenoord next season, and Twente will have to work hard to find a suitable replacement.

Young Player of the Season: Daan Rots.

The 23-year-old may be considered a ‘young player’, but his performances this season deserve recognition. The winger had another productive season, albeit not as strong as the previous year. In 47 games for the team, he scored five goals and provided six assists.

Summer needs:

As previously stated, a replacement for Steijn. The team was so reliant on him for goals that replacing him would require either finding another hidden gem or setting goals by committee. The Feyenoord-bound midfielder scored 24 of their 58 goals this past season.
