Derby County are now focused on signing a 100+ career goal forward this summer, with John Eustace personally spearheading the pursuit, according to a report.
Derby’s summer transfer plans taking shape
Although avoiding relegation from the Championship in Derby’s first season back in the second division was always going to be difficult, Eustace will be aiming to add players who can assist his team move up the league the following season.
Next summer, the Rams plan to target some of their Championship rivals. They made a bid for Hull City right-back Cody Drameh, but their offer was rejected, so they did not get the reaction they were hoping for.
However, center-back Ricardo Santos, who left Bolton Wanderers on a free transfer, is also being pursued by Eustace, so Drameh is not the only defender in their sights.
Even though the Championship team had a respectable defensive record in 2024–25—allowing just 56 goals during the season—they are obviously eager to expand their alternatives at the back bench.
But they also want to improve their attacking options, and according to a report from Derbyshire Live, Derby is now interested in signing Andi Weimann, who played for Pride Park for three years from 2015 to 2018.
If the forward is unable to agree to a new deal to prolong his stay with current employers Blackburn Rovers, Eustace is personally campaigning for the Rams to bring back Weimann, who will be available on a free transfer.

The 45-year-old signed the 33-year-old Eustace for Blackburn last summer, demonstrating their close bond. His manager praised him last season, saying: “When you have a player of that caliber, it doesn’t matter how old he is (or) how young he is.”
“His influence both on and off the field is evident to all. That he chose to sign here is a great blessing for us.
Nigel Pearson, the former manager of Bristol City, is another fan of the Austrian, calling his drive and work ethic “incredible.” Derby may benefit greatly from his wealth of Championship-level experience.
The Blackburn attacker, who has scored 74 goals in the league and has spent most of his career in the second division, now has over 100 goals in his career after scoring seven last season.
Weimann may therefore be a great addition to Derby, who will be hoping that his current connection with Eustace will help persuade the attacker to join them at Pride Park.
