Event cancelled at King George’s Hall Blackburn – here’s why.
The event in Blackburn has been cancelled due to King George’s Hall closure for a £9 million refurbishment.
The Big Soul Night Out was scheduled for January 24 of next year.
Organiser Richard Searling has announced that the event has been cancelled due to concerns that the venue will not reopen by this date.
The council hopes to reopen in 2026, though no official date has been announced.
The replacement date for the event will be announced next year.
Martin Kelly is the strategic director of growth and development and deputy chief executive of Blackburn with Darwen Council.
He added that the team is still delivering entertainment at Darwen Library Theatre and is already planning events for next year.
Martin stated: “King George’s Hall is set to benefit from £9 million in new investment, which is fantastic news for the future of such an iconic and much-loved venue at the heart of our new Cultural Quarter.
“This project is part of the £20 million in new Government funding that we successfully secured last year, and we’ve moved quickly to get the work started – making the most of this important opportunity.

“Given the complexities of working on a historic building, the scope of the work, and the speed with which we’ve progressed, our commitment has always been to reopen in 2026 – and we can’t wait to welcome audiences back.
“Unfortunately, this means that some shows and events have had to be rescheduled.
“However, the team is currently delivering a packed programme at Darwen Library Theatre and is already planning an exciting line-up for next year.
“We’re absolutely committed to keeping our residents and neighbouring businesses fully informed too, and we’ll share more updates as soon as we can.”
