Evergy crews continue to restore power after severe storms hit Kansas City

Following severe storms that brought destructive winds, heavy rain, and hail to the Kansas City area on Monday, thousands of residents are now getting power back.
Overnight, crews repaired equipment, including electricity lines. About 46% of customers impacted by the storms had their power restored by 8:15 p.m. Monday, according to Evergy, a firm that supplies energy to a large portion of the Kansas City area.
In a statement posted on its website, Evergy stated that the Kansas City metro area had suffered the worst damage, with downed lines and broken poles among the damage caused by severe winds.
Just 2,334 people (0.7% of customers) in Jackson County were still without power as of Tuesday at 7 a.m., according to Evergy’s outage map. 3,146 residents, or 1.08% of the county’s customers, are without electricity in Johnson County.
The Kansas City metro region was under a tornado watch, which ended at 11 p.m. on Monday.
Flash flood warnings were issued by the National Weather Service when Kansas City was hit by torrential rains.
The National Weather Service reported on X Monday that the storms delivered winds of much to 80 miles per hour to Johnson County. Customers can report an outage on Evergy’s website as workers continue to restore electricity.
