Every Celtic SFWA Player of the Year since 1965 amid Daizen Maeda and Callum McGregor nominations

Under Jock Stein’s coaching, Celtic was on the verge of becoming the best side in Scotland at the time, and they would go on to achieve unheard-of success, including the European Cup.

The award was first given to basketball great Billy McNeill, and Celtic has produced more award winners than any other team in Scotland in the decades thereafter.

The award has been won by Celtic players 26 times, including a run in the 2010s and 2020s where a Hoops player held it for seven consecutive years.

The 2025 award nominees for Daizen Maeda and captain Callum McGregor are Simon Murray of Dundee and Nectar Triantis, a midfielder for Hibs.

These are all of the Celtics who have won SFWA Player of the Year since 1965.
