As more free agents become available for transfers this summer, Sheffield United is the most recent Championship team to reveal their list of players who have been released and kept after losing in the play-off final.
As their rebuilding efforts begin, the Blades have also revealed that a number of loan recruits who may be of interest to Derby County will return to their parent clubs.
The Blades’ unsuccessful play-off attempt has left Alfie Gilchrist, Rob Holding, Harry Soutter, Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, Harry Clarke, Ben Brereton Diaz, and Hamza Choudhury uncertain about their futures together as they return home.

For most Championship teams, the deadline for informing the EFL regarding the future of players whose contracts expire at the end of June was May 17. An extension was given to play-off clubs until four days following the end of their season.
Semi-finalists in the playoffs While Sheffield United stated today that they are in talks with striker Rhian Brewster and that Jack Robinson has activated an automatic one-year extension by playing a specific amount of games, Coventry City and Bristol City have subsequently made their lists public. In the 2024–25 season, Brewster made 18 league starts while Robinson made 34.
The Queens Park Rangers just revealed their list yesterday, confirming the departure of left-back Kenneth Paal and continuing negotiations with Jimmy Dunne, Jack Colback, Lucas Andersen, and Morgan Fox. Clubs are not required to make their lists public by any date.
The only Championship teams from the just finished season who have not yet made their retained lists public are Sunderland and Cardiff City. Cardiff, who do not yet have a manager, was demoted to League One, whereas Sunderland will be playing in the Premier League next season.
No senior players at Sunderland have contracts expiring this summer, although Dimitrious Goutas, Yakou Meite, Joe Ralls, Andy Rinomhata, and Anwar El Ghazi are among the Cardiff players whose contracts are due to expire.
Charlton Athletic, which won promotion from League One on Monday through the play-offs, and Southampton and Ipswich Town, two of the three Premier League clubs demoted, have not yet made their decisions public.
Axel Tuanzebe, a former Manchester United defender, is one of the Ipswich players whose contracts expire in 2025. Massimo Luongo, a midfielder, has already been announced to leave. Adam Lallana could retire, while Kyle Walker-Peters is hesitant about signing a new deal at Southampton.

Even though the attacker is still under contract, Derby has released players including Tom Barkhuizen, Sonny Bradley, Jeff Hendrick, Erik Pieters, and Kemar Roofe. They have also given Nathaniel Mendez-Laing permission to rejoin former manager Paul Warne at MK Dons on a free transfer. Additionally, they are discussing the possibility of prolonging their tenure at Pride Park with Liam Thompson and Craig Forsyth.
Manager John Eustace has already been linked with a raid on former club Blackburn for old boy attacker Andi Weimann and defender Danny Baath, while the head coach has confirmed he would like to keep loan centre-back Nat Phillips at Pride Park ahead of a likely exit from Liverpool this summer.
