than 150 games for the team.
The 28-year-old was part of the mini 2015 summer transfer window revolution at Rangers following Mark
Warburton’s appointment as manager after failing to earn promotion from the Championship the previous season.
The Northern Ireland international spent a large portion of his time on loan in the lower levels with Airdrieonians,
Raith Rovers, and Livingston after failing to establish himself in the first squad at Old Trafford.
Thompson was dismissed at the end of the 2017–18 season after being limited to only two senior appearances in his
debut season with Rangers and failing to make an impression on Warburton. After joining Blackpool, he went back
south that summer and earned regular first-team play at Bloomfield Road.
After being signed by Stoke, Thompson was on the move once more eighteen months later. Over the course of the
following five and a half years, he became the club’s longest-serving player. His name has been added to the roster of
players who will be leaving at the end of the current campaign, though.
The 39-cap international still supports Rangers despite his disastrous time there, having outfitted his newborn son
Crue in a Rangers baby grow. During his time at Ibrox, Thompson also cited Lee Wallace and Kenny Miller as the
two players he learnt the most from.
