According to rumors in East Yorkshire, Sheffield Wednesday’s Championship rivals are getting closer to hiring a new manager.
Acun Ilicali, the owner of Hull City, surprised the second division by firing Ruben Selles just days after the season concluded. The Spaniard had led the Tigers to Championship safety following a tense December signing. According to reports, Selles, a former Reading player, is in discussions with Huddersfield Town about taking over their League One promotion campaign the following season.
With Ilicali spending time in London this week interviewing potential candidates, Humberside is moving forward with their next appointment. Michael Beale, the former manager of Rangers and Sunderland, has been interviewed. Emre Belözoğlu, the former Turkey international, was thought to be a front-runner until a strong fan response appeared to force him out of the competition. The owner of Hull is planning a surprise and thinks his new man will be in place soon enough.
Ilicali told Hull Live, “I would say that I think it will take no more than one week.” “I believe we will reach a consensus with a manager in a week, but I doubt he will be someone you are familiar with.
“I don’t want to talk about the managers’ possibility too much because I don’t feel good when I’m talking about managers on their behalf, whether it’s possible or not,” he stated. It’s like I’m passing judgment on them. All of the managers we are speaking with, in my opinion, are excellent managers. Emre is a top manager, in my opinion. Speaking with Michael Beale reveals how knowledgeable he is about the game.
Martin Hodge, the former Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper who was just announced as the club’s head of recruitment, is one guy participating in the decision-making process about their next manager.
“I can’t tell you right now that this one is like this or this one is like this, but I’m very hopeful to finish the deal in one week,” Ilicali added. “We have football minds in the club that will decide about this manager.”
Since you only hear about two of our applicants, the answer is yes—there are other possible options. We currently have five, and one of them seems more appropriate for our club every day, but none of you are aware of its name.
