Former Wanderers youngster Mackenzie Chapman has signed a one-year deal at League Two side Salford City.
The goalie spent time with the Whites’ B Team but did not make an appearance for the top team. He was released at the end of the 2022/23 season and transferred to North West neighbors Blackpool. Chapman appeared on the bench several times last season before leaving Bloomfield Road over the summer. The shot-stopper will now work for Salford City under Karl Robinson, whom he knows from his time at Oxford United.
“Karl was brilliant for me,” he told the club’s website. “I was a young lad going away from home for the first time, perhaps 17 or 18.
“We had a terrific working connection; he truly tested me, and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to work with him again. “I grew up just a few miles up the road (in Bury), and the investment was significant. “Me and my pals would go down to witness the Class of ’92, so it’s amazing to see where the club is today in the Football League – and pushing to go into League One, fingers crossed. “I had excellent academy education, which laid a solid foundation for my future job. Hopefully, I can put that in place here.”
Chapman will now have the opportunity to learn from another ex-Wanderer, Mark Howard, who joined the Ammies this summer after leaving Wrexham. Robinson’s side has made a promising start to the new League Two season, sitting fourth with 19 points. They return to action this weekend, hosting Grimsby Town at the Peninsula Stadium.
