Exact Nottingham Forest, Chelsea and Aston Villa points tallies predicted in Champions League race

Nottingham Forest’s chances of winning the Champions League were severely damaged by their Thursday night loss to Brentford, but there is still hope.

The Reds still have a chance to place in the Premier League’s top five. And whereas some pundits might have written them off, the data gurus have not.

After their 2-0 loss to the Bees, Opta put the Reds’ chances of qualifying for the Champions League at 58.06 percent. With four games left, their predicted table has Forest finishing fifth with 66.55 points.

Opta’s supercomputer believes Nuno Espirito Santo’s team still has a better chance than not of making Europe’s top club competition.

With 65.70 points, Manchester City is predicted to finish third, Newcastle United fourth, and Villa in sixth place.

Opta placed City’s chances of winning Champions League football at 94.80 percent, Newcastle’s at 83.92 percent, Chelsea’s at 49.52 percent, and Villa’s at 13.72 percent.

Nuno’s team is aware that they have little leeway in their remaining games and must also rely on their opponents dropping points, so their matchup against the Blues on the final day could prove to be crucial in the fight for fifth place.

Head coach Nuno acknowledged that he was worried about the two goals his team had given up after losing to Brentford, and he emphasized the significance of returning to being defensively sound in the remaining games of the season.

Prior to that, the Reds will try to recover from Thursday’s defeat when they travel to play Crystal Palace on Monday (8 p.m. kickoff). They will then play relegated Leicester City at the City Ground and West Ham United away.

On the significance of a strong season finale, he stated: “It is very important. We are here because we deserve to be in this run. It is a tough one. But now that we are (here), we have to give it our all.”

“I’m not concerned about what’s coming after today. I’m concerned about us – how can we compete against Palace, how can we be ourselves again, how can we be dominant even when we don’t have the ball? But we don’t give chances away because we have talent and speed. This has to be, and it is, my greatest concern.”
