Ryan Mason, a former Tottenham Hotspur assistant, is taking on his first management position at West Bromwich Albion, ushering in a new era for the team.
In an attempt to improve on a lacklustre conclusion to the last Championship season, which ended in ninth place, the Baggies are counting on the 33-year-old’s approach to both wow fans and bring about instant success.
Additionally, it has been disclosed that Albion and local rivals Birmingham City have shown interest in signing Mikey Moore on loan from the North London team after making an inquiry about the possibility of a loan move for Jamie Donley, who scored 18 goals while on loan at Leyton Orient from Spurs last season.
Given the excitement around the 17-year-old’s first breakthrough under the recently fired Ange Postecoglou, FLW questioned Callum Burgess, a West Brom fan commentator, if this would be a trade that would satisfy many needs.
It is recommended that West Brom arrange a deal with Mikey Moore while keeping Karlan Grant and Mikey Johnston in mind.

Apart from the thrill of signing a highly-regarded player on loan, Burgess thinks this possible short-term agreement may have an effect on Karlan Grant’s and Mikey Johnston‘s circumstances.
“I think with Mikey Johnston currently being our starting left-winger, having Mikey Moore competing for minutes on the left side would be good for both of them,” he said.
“With one year remaining on his contract, I believe Karlan Grant may be going on, and having Johnston and Moore on the team may make for an interesting combination.
“You know whenever either of them are on the pitch, you’re going to have (good) dribbling and lots of technical ability and trickery,” Burgess said. “If Albion were to get Mikey Moore, I believe it would be a wise decision.
“A transfer to the Championship would be excellent for him as he begins to adjust to professional game, even if he is just 17 years old and did play a lot for Tottenham off the bench.
“With Ryan Mason in charge, Albion are going to be attractive with his links to Tottenham’s youth academy, having come through the ranks and coached there,” Burgess said.
“Mikey Moore won’t be someone you can rely on to be among the team’s top players even if we do contract him. However, you would undoubtedly expect that he could have an effect throughout the season.
Under Ryan Mason, Mikey Moore would bring new life to a seasoned West Brom assault.

The loan signing of Moore would undoubtedly give Mason a different dimension in attack, and if it had an impact on Grant’s future specifically, it would probably lower the average age of the team, which was the joint-fourth oldest in the second division last season (26.4). However, having a squad full of experienced players is not a bad thing in a squad vying for a play-off spot or promotion.
This arrival would also provide Johnston a lot of competition, as Burgess hinted to, but given the young player’s versatility—he has played as a right-winger and number 10—there is room for both him and Moore to remain in the same lineup.
At this point in his career, a move to the EFL would be very advantageous. It’s also interesting to consider which of the two West Midlands clubs could be given the final say in this transfer battle, as Blues manager Chris Davies is also familiar with the England youth international from working with Mason and Postecoglou in North London during the 2023–2024 season.
