Exclusive: Charlton Athletic in talks to sign ‘quality’ Wolves youngster who has 30 international caps

Charlton Athletic are set to continue their successful summer transfer window business with the signing of a highly rated Premier League prodigy.

Nathan Jones and the Charlton Athletic transfer squad have been working hard in the summer transfer window after winning the League One play-off final earlier this summer to gain promotion to the Championship.

Given the level of teams in the 2025/26 Championship table, Charlton were widely expected to be relegated this season.

However, the Addicks’ summer business, which included signing Charlie Kelman from QPR, has given fans renewed confidence for the next season.

Those survival hopes can now be boosted even further, as EFL Analysis can reveal that Charlton have begun talks to sign a Premier League talent.

Charlton Athletic is in talks to sign Wolves defender Dexter Lembikisa

The Addicks’ eighth summer signing came after Charlton signed Harvey Knibbs from Reading, despite strong Championship interest in his services.

Charlton are now set to make double-digit signings this summer, with talks underway to capture Wolves defender Dexter Lembikisa.

According to EFL Analysis’ Chief Football Correspondent Graeme Bailey, Charlton are in talks to buy Lembikisa from Wolves. Discussions are ongoing about whether the move will be a loan or a permanent transfer.

Lembikisa has been training with Charlton this summer, after Addicks correspondent for BBC London Sport, Louis Mendez, disclosed in July that the 21-year-old was on trial in a pre-season friendly with Wealdstone.

The right-back joined League One club Barnsley on loan in the second half of last season and appeared in 12 games for the Tykes.

Despite being only 21, Lembikisa already has 30 international caps for Jamaica, having played for the Reggae Boys at the CONCACAF Gold Cup this summer.

The Addicks fans will be hoping that he brings his pedigree and the plaudits he received from ex-Wolves manager Julien Lopetegui to Charlton this season.

Lembikisa came into the Wolves first team before Lopetegui arrived, and he made his FA Cup debut under him against Liverpool.

Lopetegui told Birmingham Live, “He’s 19, a good guy, and he wants to learn more.”

I believe he has good physical abilities and, like all of the players, has made significant improvements.

“He is moving in the right way and is committed to it.

Dexter Lembikisa’s career appearances ahead of Charlton Athletic move

“He is young and will have to keep this up for many years. Staying is more difficult than arriving. “He [Dexter] and Hodgy (Joe Hodge) have demonstrated strong character, charisma, and even quality by being able to play here, and they must believe in themselves.

“But it’s not about their age. This is about their quality and character, and being prepared to compete at this level.”

According to Transfermarkt, Lembikisa’s current market worth is £1.1 million, and his current Wolves contract will expire next summer.
