Exclusive: Charlton & QPR eyeing up swoop for 16-goal Peterborough United forward.

According to Football League World, Championship clubs Charlton Athletic and QPR are interested in signing Peterborough United attacker Malik Mothersille.
Both London clubs will want to enhance their striking groups this summer, particularly with the Addicks losing Chuks Aneke’s experience at The Valley. QPR, meantime, are yet to confirm the appointment of a new head coach to succeed Marti Cifuentes, despite significant links to Frenchman Julien Stephan. Nonetheless, their recruiting squad is looking into negotiations for new recruits without a new manager in place.

And one League One striker is on both clubs’ radars, according to FLW, with Peterborough’s Malik Mothersille attracting interest from both the Addicks and the Hoops this summer. The 21-year-old, who became a Jamaica international for the first time last month, had a breakout season for Posh in 2024-25 despite their low League One finish, scoring 12 goals and assisting nine more in 45 third-tier appearances, with another four goals coming in the EFL Trophy as the Cambridgeshire club defeated Birmingham City in the final.

Mothersille joined Peterborough in the summer of 2023 after his contract with Chelsea expired, though they had to pay the Premier League giants compensation for his services. After a quiet debut season at London Road, where he scored just three goals in 22 League One appearances, he became a key player under Darren Ferguson this season, often playing on the left wing or in the number 10 role despite coming through the ranks as a striker. Mothersille may be making a move to the Championship, but he’d require QPR and Charlton to firm up their initial transfer interest with a bid, but he only has one year remaining on his contract with Posh, and the club has opted to take up his one-year option this summer.
Peterborough United have been raided this summer and more exits set to follow
Mothersille might leave Peterborough if an appropriate bid is made, and Darren Ferguson’s squad has already lost some crucial players this summer. Midfielder and captain Hector Kyprianou terminated his contract and signed with Championship club Watford, while promising striker Ricky Jade-Jones has decided to move on to pastures new, joining German top flight side St. Pauli. Star winger Kwame Poku will also go, with FLW reporting this week that Ipswich Town had entered the competition for the Ghanaian international’s services – however, like Jade-Jones, United will receive compensation based on where he ends up.
