According to Sky Sports analyst Lee Hendrie, Norman Bassette, a 20-year-old forward for Coventry City, would be best served by a loan move this coming season in order to maximise his development in 2025–2026.
In his debut season at the CBS Arena after joining from Ligue 2 team Caen last summer, Bassette has mostly been used as a substitute, making just eleven starts throughout the 2024–25 Championship season.
The young Belgian forward, who made his senior debut for his country in November of last year, cost between £2.1 and £2.98 million to acquire last summer.
He was brought in as a player who could make a respectable contribution right now but has the potential to develop into a prolific striker in front of goal in the future.

Lee Hendrie, a former midfielder for Aston Villa, thinks Bassette is a lot like Viktor Gyokeres, who destroyed Championship defenders at Coventry when he was a player.
Hendrie does, however, think that he would benefit from spending a season away from the CBS Arena with a team that would allow him to start more frequently.
This would enable him to return to his original club and make an immediate impact.
“When I watched him play for Coventry at times last season, I thought he was great. When asked about Norman Bassette in an exclusive interview with FLW, Hendrie stated, “He’s shown signs of Viktor Gyokeres when he came onto the scene there.”
The imposing Swede is regarded by many as one of the world’s top strikers, if not the best, and the Sky Sports analyst gave him high marks. Gyokeres has scored 97 goals in 102 Sporting games, but he first established himself in the Championship with Coventry.
If Bassette can match him, the Sky Blues will once again have a player of the next generation.
“He’s really hard-working, has a real strength about him and puts himself about,” Hendrie said.
“He does provide a great deal, but he might not get the playing time he would be hoping for this season, so I do think he would have to go out on loan to establish himself.
“It might end up working out for Coventry and himself if he goes out there and puts his name out there.”
With players like Ellis Simms, Brandon Thomas-Asante, and Haji Wright capable of playing the “number nine” position, Hendrie thinks Coventry’s depth up top would allow for a short-term deal without making Frank Lampard’s team thin at striker.
He said: “I do feel that he has a lot to offer, and it wouldn’t surprise me if he is loaned out, because Coventry does have a fair few strikers who can step in.”
Although a loan could be advantageous, Norman Bassette might continue to pursue Viktor Gyokeres if she stays.
Norman Bassette could be better off staying at Coventry and vying for a starting position in Frank Lampard’s team if he possesses characteristics like Viktor Gyokeres. Gyokeres had a lacklustre loan stint at Coventry in the second half of the 2020–21 campaign, scoring just three goals in 19 appearances, including seven starts.
The Swedish international struggled at Swansea in the early half of that season, going 11 games without scoring.
However, Gyokeres scored 17 goals and provided five assists in the 2021–2022 season, his first as a full part of the Coventry team and his second Championship campaign, solidifying his place in Mark Robins’ squad. It was only up from there.
