However, like the rest of his teammates, the striker has struggled this season, scoring only two goals in 32 Premier League appearances.

Southampton set for a crucial summer following relegation.

As a result, ahead of a busy summer for the club, there has been speculation about Archer’s future.

It appears that the new manager will make squad changes, and it is unclear whether the former Middlesbrough loanee will be included.

Prutton, speaking exclusively to FLW, expressed confidence in Archer’s potential to succeed in the Championship for Southampton.

“Would you get £15 million back for him? I honestly don’t know. I believe the general consensus among Southampton fans is that he hasn’t lived up to expectations, but with the caveat that he is a confidence player, and he is part of a team that has been lacking it for much of the season due to how brutal it has been.

“I believe the right manager can get the best out of Archer. The fact that they changed managers and it made no difference indicates that whoever was in charge, such as Ivan Juric, was not the right person for the position.

“He’s one of many Southampton players who haven’t reached Premier League level but are quite capable in the Championship. Watch this space.”

Cameron Archer could be crucial to Southampton’s promotion chances.

As Prutton suggests, keeping Archer would make sense, especially since they may not recoup their investment in the striker this summer.

If he stays, there’s no reason Archer can’t be a prolific goalscorer in the Championship.

He has previously played at this level with Preston and Middlesbrough on loan, and is expected to score frequently in the Saints’ talented Championship team.

Finally, a lot will depend on the new manager, and it is critical that the club finalise that appointment as soon as possible.

Archer’s potential to score goals could help Southampton return to the Premier League next season, making him a key player in the team.
