EXCLUSIVE: Dundee new boy Emile Acquah on the derby win that inspired Dens Park switch.

The huge forward scored his first goal in dark blue against Brechin on Saturday.

Emile Acquah became interested in the Dark Blues after watching Dundee beat United at Tannadice. When the Dee came calling this summer, the big striker made up his mind quickly.

Acquah moved north from Barrow for a price of £33,000, which may increase to £100,000. He’s already off the mark after scoring a spectacular flick in Saturday’s 3-0 victory over Brechin City. And he can’t wait to get started in the League Cup next weekend.

“I was very happy to get a goal; it’s what you expect when you join a new club, so it was great to get on the scoreboard on Saturday,” he exclusively told Courier Sport. “I enjoy scoring great goals like that one, but I am also content with a few tap-ins. “I’m having a great time in Dundee; the boys have been fantastic in assisting me with my transition.

“The gaffer has been really helpful; he’s communicated his thoughts and informed me what he expects from me, now it’s time to get started. “I just want to get in the team first of all and then get as many goals as I can to help push the team on from last season.”

Steven Pressley is pleased about Acquah and Simon Murray’s relationship in the upcoming season. Murray has stated that he enjoys playing with a big guy up top, and Acquah is eager to continue on what they established at Brechin.

“I’ve played with one up front a few times, but I prefer playing with a second striker. “I believe we can complement one other’s strengths. And what he has complements what I have. “It should be a good partnership. “I’m thrilled.”

Acquah’s first experience with Scottish football was a really windy day at Arbroath on his debut as a Dee, followed by a friendly against Brechin.

It’s evident, however, that after signing a three-year contract with the Dee, his thoughts turned to the upcoming season.

30 August is Derby Day. “I watched the Dundee derby last season on TV and I know how much that means to the fans,” he told me. “It was a feisty game, Dundee won which was good – I can’t wait to get into that one.”
