EFL Analysis have gained an insight into Middlesbrough’s summer transfer plans after Michael Carrick’s dismissal.
After nearly a month of doubt over his future, Michael Carrick left Middlesbrough on Wednesday.
The former footballer fell short of his ultimate ambition of returning Boro to the Premier League, only making the play-offs once in three seasons in charge.
It’s unclear who will replace Carrick in the dugout, but Danny Rohl and Rob Edwards have been linked.
Now, EFL Analysis knows how Carrick’s sacking will affect transfer plans and what Middlesbrough intends to do in the market.
Middlesbrough targeting multiple areas in the summer transfer window
According to Graeme Bailey, our resident transfer expert, Boro’s transfer plans will not be affected by Carrick’s dismissal. Kieran Scott, the club’s director of football, is in charge of recruitment, while the manager is responsible for player retention.
On what Boro intend to do this summer, Bailey added: “So Josh Coburn’s future, for example, could be more dependant on the next management. But no, they are searching. They desperately want and need a right back.
“Midfield would be contingent on Hayden Hackney staying or leaving, and they need another striker.
“There’s a good four or five positions Boro need and they are working on those as we speak, even as we say without a new manager in place.”

Players Middlesbrough are linked with
We learned last month that Luke Ayling could depart Middlesbrough this summer, leaving the club without a senior, natural right-back.
Plymouth Argyle defender Boro likes Bali Mumba after watching him in January.
Middlesbrough is also interested in Tyrhys Dolan, whose contract with Blackburn Rovers expires at the end of this month.
