Exclusive: Middlesbrough’s Callum Brittain deal faces collapse after Blackburn talks
Football Insider has been informed by sources that Middlesbrough’s attempt to sign Blackburn Rovers defender
Callum Brittain is in danger of failing.
As Rob Edwards, the new manager of Middlesbrough, tries to restructure his team’s defence, Boro is eager to sign
the 27-year-old full-back and has been in negotiations with Rovers on a fee.
However, Middlesbrough’s deal is in jeopardy because the two Championship clubs, who both came close to a play-
off spot last season, cannot agree on a fee for Brittain.
In search of a fresh challenge away from Ewood Park, Brittain has declined a new contract at Blackburn.
The right-back made 33 Championship appearances, playing 2794 minutes in all competitions.
Brittain to battle for Blackburn exit as new signings secured
On July 3, Football Insider reported that former Blackburn manager John Eustace had expressed a desire to bring
Brittain to Derby County due to contract uncertainty; however, those negotiations have since collapsed.
Although Brittain’s future at Ewood Park is presently in doubt, Eustace is not the only player he hopes to reunite
with this summer after considering a move for Rovers loanee Owen Beck from Liverpool.
According to Football Insider, versatile Hull City defender Sean McLoughlin will soon be heading to Blackburn as
Valerien Ismael fills the defensive void left by Brittain’s departure.
Former Arsenal academy right-back Ryan Alebiosu has also been signed from Belgian side KV Kortrijk as Rovers’
summer spending continues, leaving the writing on the wall for Brittain’s future prospects.
Middlesbrough must resolve Brittain stalemate amid Riverside exits

team back to the promised land for the upcoming campaign. However, transfer activity has been slow at the
Riverside.
Archie Baptiste, a young player from Tottenham, is Boro’s only new defender thus far. With Anfernee Dijksteel
leaving on a free transfer, Brittain will clearly need to cover the right-back position next season.
With a transfer for former England striker Danny Ings on the horizon, Boro has largely concentrated on the front
end of Edwards’ team. However, right-back is a glaring deficiency that Brittain’s signing would instantly remedy.
