Following the end of the 2024–25 season, Carlisle offered the 23-year-old a new contract, which he has not yet accepted, according to the club’s retained list.

After being released by MK Dons during the winter transfer window, the striker signed a short-term contract with the Cumbrians in February that would last until the end of the season.

Although they made a strong last-ditch effort to avoid relegation from League Two this past season, Mark Hughes’ team lost their battle for safety and is now getting ready for life in the National League.

Matthew Dennis, a striker for Carlisle United, has had bids from Notts County, Fleetwood Town, Walsall, and Port Vale, according to unique information obtained by Football League World.

Carlisle wouldn’t have wanted the young attacker to have so many EFL choices available to him now that he hasn’t committed to a long-term future at Brunton Park.

Dennis joined the team in February and played in 14 League Two games for the Cumbrians, scoring six goals and dishing out one assist in the second half of the season.

As such, he quickly won over the Brunton Park supporters and played a key part in the team’s tragic fight against relegation.

As a young player, Dennis played for Arsenal for 12 years until joining Norwich City in the summer of 2020.

He was loaned to Southend United of the National League for the 2021–2022 season after putting on some outstanding performances in the Canaries’ development system. In 30 games, he scored eight goals.

Dennis would finally sign a contract with MK Dons in the summer of 2022. He played for the team for little under 50 games, scoring 11 goals until being let go in early February of this year.

Dennis has proven himself to be a smart player at League Two level – he could be a highly shrewd signing

Given that he didn’t have time to get started and that he was playing for a side that was in the middle of a relegation fight, Dennis’ goal-scoring exploits for Carlisle last season were quite amazing.

However, his six goals in 14 games demonstrated his ability to score at the League Two level, and it’s not surprising that a number of EFL teams are vying for his services considering his contract status with the Cumbrians.

His goal total during his brief time at Brunton Park shown that he could easily score 15–20 goals in a season, if not more, over a complete fourth-tier campaign.

It should be obvious to teams like Notts County, Fleetwood Town, Walsall, and Port Vale, respectively, to sign a player of that caliber, especially on a free transfer.
