According to analyst Lee Hendrie, Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl will join a Bundesliga team this summer.
Rohl led Wednesday to a 12th-place finish this season after maintaining the team in the Championship the previous season. However, a heated public argument between the German and owner Dejphon Chansiri during the second part of the season took center stage after the German was turned down for a Southampton transfer in December.
Rohl’s future has been the subject of increasing speculation in recent weeks. Earlier this month, the 36-year-old infuriated Owls fans by discussing his potential next move in an interview, with many believing that such remarks were improper while still under contract at Hillsborough.
Although Rohl was once again heavily connected to Southampton, the Saints on Sunday named Will Still as their new manager. Rohl may also lose out on the Leicester City position, as Russell Martin is anticipated to succeed Ruud van Nistelrooy at the King Power Stadium.
Although Rohl was apparently on the radar of RB Leipzig, no talks have taken place with the German powerhouses. The Premier League teams Fulham and Crystal Palace were also mentioned as potential suitors for Rohl, but it does not appear that a position will become available at either of those two clubs this summer.
Journalist Rob Staton claims that Rohl recently had “positive talks” with Werder Bremen, who had a “legitimate interest” in the Wednesday manager. However, the Bundesliga team was unable to move forward because of Rohl’s “excessive and prohibitive” release clause, which is thought to be as high as £5 million.
