Exclusive: Latest understanding on Chris Powell after Sheffield Wednesday sighting

The Star has learnt that Chris Powell, a well-liked former Sheffield Wednesday coach, has attended recent Owls practices; however, at

this time, a quick return to the team is not anticipated.

The former England international, whose impressive resume includes managerial positions at Charlton Athletic and Huddersfield

Town, was well-liked by both the players and supporters at Hillsborough. He joined the team to provide Danny Röhl’s coaching staff

English football expertise, and after staying on for the rest of the German’s incredible first half-season in charge, he extended his

contract with the team into the final season.

Like the rest of Röhl’s coaching staff, Powell’s contract came to an end at the turn of the month. The Star understands the 55-year-old

was present at some of Wednesday’s sessions at their training camp at St George’s Park last week but did not play an active part in

proceedings. He is also understood to have reported to Middlewood Road for the club’s initial testing days in what were the final days

of his contract.

After a summer of uncertainty, Röhl has returned to Wednesday and was pictured shouting orders in leading a session at a

Middlewood Road training session on Monday, where newly-contracted assistant coach Henrik Pedersen was also pictured separately.

Although Wednesday is currently dealing with more urgent problems due to its financial difficulties, the departure of numerous

important coaching staff members has left S6 with a thin organisational framework and raised questions about whether players like

Powell might rejoin the Owls lineup. The Star is aware that Powell is unlikely to make a full-time comeback anytime soon, since we are

still in the early phases of Röhl’s unexpected comeback.

Craig Chappell, the operations chief, is also thought to have returned to work with the club’s academy after Röhl’s coaching staff was

disbanded. Attackers Anthony Musaba and Djeidi Gassama have announced their permanent departures in recent days. Young player

Caelan-Kole Cadamarteri is anticipated to finalise a move to Manchester City, and other player exits may occur.
