Exclusive:Sunderland chief now outlines ‘dream’ signing ahead of Premier League return, ‘I hope’…

After returning to the Premier League on Saturday, Sunderland supporters were ecstatic, and now a “dream” signing has been described.

Tommy Watson, who is headed to Brighton, called himself a Sunderland “legend” after defeating Sheffield United at Wembley and winning the game.

Thousands of supporters were plunged into a frenzy at Wembley when the Black Cats overcame a deficit to win the Championship play-off final.

Regis Le Bris’ first season in command ended perfectly, but now that a return to the top division is imminent, the North East giants face their true test.

A flawless summer transfer window will need to be carried out for Sunderland to survive, and one club chief has outlined his ‘dream’ signing.

Juan Sartori talks about his “ideal” Sunderland acquisition.
Enzo Le Fee’s transfer to Sunderland became permanent after their incredible comeback at Wembley, which led to their promotion to the Premier League.

Since signing from Roma, the 25-year-old has demonstrated class, and the Frenchman will now carry on the legacy he is beginning to create at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland co-owner Juan Sartori has stated his “dream” of one day acquiring a Uruguayan player, and Le Fee is one of many players Le Bris will join on a permanent basis this summer.

“No, that’s always a dream, but you also have to separate heartfelt decisions from patriotic ones, so one would like to make the right decision at the right time,” the Uruguayan said in response to a question regarding the likelihood of that occurring published in El Observador.

“We’ll see what happens now, but I’m confident that one day we’ll be able to bring a Uruguayan to Sunderland, and that it will be in the finest circumstances. Bringing a Uruguayan is not the aim; rather, it is a dream that I hope may one day be realized.

There has only been one Uruguayan player for Sunderland.
If Sartori’s dream of signing a Uruguayan is ever fulfilled, the player will only be the second of that country to play for Sunderland.

The first was center-back Sebastien Coates, who came to the Black Cats from Liverpool in the summer of 2014 and played just 32 games before departing in 2016.

Before leaving for Club Nacional in 2024, Coates, now 34, played with Sporting Lisbon for over ten years, making an incredible 369 games and scoring 34 goals.

Interestingly, Sunderland had maybe the best Uruguayan player in history before to Coates, coming very close to acquiring Luis Suarez from Ajax in 2010.

Unfortunately, Sunderland passed on that chance, and in January 2011, Liverpool pounced for the elite striker. As they say, the rest is history.
