Face of attempted killer who left victim ‘lucky to be alive’

The victim of an attempted murderer who used “extreme violence” in a shocking attack is lucky to be alive, say police.

Kubilay Bostanli of Anzio Road in Devizes was admitted to a psychiatric facility on Friday, April 25, after a jury found him guilty of attempted murder in January.

The 27-year-old stabbed a guy in his twenties twice during an altercation on Sidmouth Street and Estcourt Street in the town centre on June 29 of last year.

After being chased and assaulted, his victim sustained two stab wounds to the neck, as well as facial and ear injuries.

Bostanli also assaulted a police officer who attempted to restrain him by dragging her around by her hair.

Following his sentencing, Bostanli was issued an indefinite restraining order, and police released a photo of him.
DC CID officer Jo Newbery said the victim of the attack was fortunate to be alive following a “terrifying” incident.

She stated, “This was a sustained and terrifying attack in which the victim fought for his life.”

“Kubilay Bostanli used extreme violence on his victim, which was witnessed by a large number of people due to the time of day and location of the attack.”

“I’d want to congratulate the victim for his bravery in cooperating with the police, and medical staff believe he’s lucky to be alive.

“I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank the three members of the public who helped to provide first aid to the victim.”

PC Crabbe was one of the first responders to the scene and has been nominated for a Police Bravery Award.

The winners of this award will be revealed in July at a ceremony in London.

Dr Olivia Chapple, the former High Sheriff, commended PC Crabbe and three members of the public who assisted in the victim’s protection.

Chief Superintendent Guy Elkins attended the ceremony and stated, “It is a huge privilege for me to see PC Crabbe’s actions recognised by the High Sheriff, and I am extremely proud of her.”

“Without her bravery, Bostanli’s victim would probably certainly be dead today.

“Policing is about going the extra mile and about giving it your all to protect people, prevent crime, deliver justice for victims and safeguard people who are vulnerable to risk.”
